Hurricanes FAQs
What are the requirements to be on the team?
All children of residents of Woodlake and Woodlake pool members are invited to join the Hurricanes. Children between the ages of 4-18 should be able to swim 25 yards to qualify for the team. Each team member will receive a swim cap and will have the option to purchase a Woodlake team suit but it is not necessary. Goggle are also highly suggested but not required.
When are the meets, and are they required?
There are a total of six meets not including CHAMPS which is a qualification meet. We will have three “home” meets and three “away” meets. Arrival for away meets is 5:00 pm with a starting time of 6:00 pm and arrival for home meets is 4:30 pm. New/younger swimmers will typically swim Freestyle and Backstroke until they get comfortable with all the strokes. Meets are not required, but they are fun and competing with team friends is a great way to celebrate your hard work in the pool.
What is required of me as a parent?
As the parent of a member of the swim team, you will be required to fulfill three volunteer spots for one swimmer, or five per season if you have multiple swimmers. Jobs vary from timing, helping get kids to their lane at the right time, setting up and cleaning up, and strokes/turns judge. More information can be found under “Volunteer Descriptions” tab.
How much does it cost?
Please see the current year “Registration Information” tab on this page.
If my child is not ready for the team, can they join Tropical Storm and get bumped up to the Hurricanes?
Tropical Storm season ends at the end of the Hurricanes season, so children are not moved up. They can develop their skills in Tropical Storm and join Hurricanes next year.
