Tropical Storm is a fun, safe learning environment for your young swimmer, ages 4-9, and a preparatory program for our Summer Swim Team. The dates for Tropical Storm are June 6 - June 30. Tropical Storm will practice in two groups. The first group is from 10am-10:30am (Monday-Thursday), and the second group is from 10:30am-11am (Monday-Thursday).
Tropical Storm swimmers will have the opportunity to swim in a mini meet. Date will be announced prior to the start of the season. This is a great learn-to-swim program! Your swimmer will feel safe and comfortable in learning water safety and stroke technique.
• Bridges the gap between lessons and a full-time swim team
• Practices 4 times a week for 30 minutes
• Learn same skills/drills/wording taught in teams
• Lower commitment than full time team
• Exposes swimmers to team environment
• It is FUN!
Tropical Storm is headed up by our awesome coaching staff!
Coach Ashley (Head Swim Coach)
Hi, my name is Ashley Dyer and I am so excited to be leading the Woodlake Hurricanes this year! I have been swimming for the Hurricanes since I was 8 years old, and it has made a huge impact on my life and swimming career. I swam year-round for Quest Swimming for 8 years, as well as for Clover Hill High School for 4 years. Along with experience with swim lessons and lifeguarding, I have been an assistant coach for Woodlake for 3 years, and I am excited to step up as head coach. I currently attend the University of Mary Washington, where I swim freestyle, breaststroke and Individual Medley events for the team. While at school, I have been assistant coaching for the RAYS, a club swim team in Fredericksburg, where I have gained more experience. I have a huge passion for the sport, and I love watching swimmers improve technique wise, as well as speed wise. I can't wait for an interesting, yet exciting summer, and to get to know each and every swimmer.
Coach Sarah (Asst Swim Coach)
Hi my name is Sarah Brown and I am a new Hurricanes assistant coach! I have been swimming competitively for 8 years, 4 of those with Quest Swimming. I am a will be a junior in the fall at Monacan High School. My best stroke is freestyle, but I love racing and teaching all strokes. I am so excited to get to know the Hurricanes, and to grow them into better swimmers!
Coach Colin (Asst Swim Coach)
As a Woodlake Hurricane since 2013, I am looking forward to joining the 2022 coaching staff! Throughout the years my swimming experience beyond Woodlake has been with Quest Swimming, Midlothian YMCA, and Cosby High School. My favorite event is the 100 IM and my favorite stroke is butterfly! Over the years as a Woodlake Hurricane, I have been the recipient of numerous coaches and high-point awards. I am looking forward to the opportunity of coaching and motivating all Woodlake swimmers. Go Hurricanes!
Coach Dave (Junior Swim Coach)
I started swimming on Tropical Storm when I was 6 years old, and I’ve been on the Hurricanes ever since. This will be my first year as a Tropical Storm coach. I've also been swimming year-round for 5 years, and I've been with Poseidon Swimming for 3 of them. I'm 14 years old, and I will start my first year at Maggie Walker Governor's School in the fall. My favorite stroke is breaststroke, but my favorite event is the 100 IM. I can't wait to help the "next generation" of Woodlake swimmers have the same awesome swimming experience!
Coach Caitlin (Junior Swim Coach)
I have enjoyed summer swim team for five years: one year at the YMCA and four years as a Hurricane. During this last year, I have been swimming on the Quest team. Last summer, I had the opportunity to assist with Tropical Storm. I loved teaching younger kids and helping them improve their skills! Currently, my favorite strokes are backstroke and breaststroke. I have been homeschooled my entire life, and next year I will be a freshman at Richmond Christian School. I’m looking forward to a fun summer together. GO HURRICANES!
