The rain couldn’t keep us down! After a bit of scrambling around, our Labor Day Party went on with lots of fun new events!
The morning started with our Woodlake Fishing contest! Sponsor Charlie Macheck from the Swift Creek Reservoir Guide Service was on hand with bait and lots of helpful advice for our fisherman. We had two categories: 6 and under, and 7-15. Charlie gave out awards for heaviest fish, first catch, and the most caught! Entenmann’s provided morning snacks and coffee. The boat dock area was filled with a few hundred residents young and old enjoying the perfect fishing morning!
After the fishing contest winners were announced, it was onto our Kids & Kritters Parade, sponsored by Woodlake Veterinary Hospital! Families came out with “mini floats,” decorated bikes, and more. The creativity was astounding! Prizes were awarded for Best Decorated Pet, Best Mini Float, Best Decorated Bike and Rider, and Best Dressed Family! Our winning pet was actually a guinea pig!
While our parade was passing through Tom Sawyer Island, there were other people hard at work setting up our first ever Inflatable Park. We were so excited to have four inflatables that provided hours of fun for all ages! Even our Community Association Manager was caught racing through the Adrenaline Rush Obstacle Course!
As the afternoon passed, more residents started to set up camp on the grass and get ready for the band, Boxcar! Many residents took advantage of our food vendors: Cheezilla, Slideways Bistro, Goodrich Gourmet, and Eastern Star Cuisine.
The night ended with a huge fireworks display that truly lit up the lake!
Thank you Virginia Credit Union and all of wonderful volunteers and staff for making this event possible. We can’t wait for next year!
