Electronic Marquee Signs Proposed To County
Posted June 22, 2012 at 9:24 AM, Filed Under: Front Page, NewsIn May, the Woodlake Community Association (WCA) submitted plans to Chesterfield County to replace our existing marquee signs with electronic message signs. As part of the review process that takes place, our Planning Commissioner, Dr. Edgar Wallin, as well as Planning Department staff and WCA hosted a community meeting on June 21 at 6:00 p.m. in Robinson Hall at Millwood School.
Our proposed signs must go through the proper process to receive approval from Chesterfield County. The sign ordinances require a review by Planning Department staff who provide a report to the Planning Commission along with a recommendation for approval or denial of the project. Then, the Planning Commissioners review the project and make a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors, who will then review it and either approve or deny the request.
The changes to our signs are part of our overall landscape and community revitalization project as approved by the Woodlake BOD (Board of Directors). WCA proposes to replace the three existing marquee signs with electronic message signs. WCA has one large sign on Woodlake Village Parkway and a smaller sign on Timber Bluff Parkway. WSRC has a sign located by Lucky’s on Woodlake Village Parkway. The new signs would be consistent with our neighborhood entrance sign replacements in appearance. The background of the message portion of the sign would be black and the letters would be amber. The messages would be static (no scrolling or flashing) and no pictures would be displayed. The landscaping around each sign would be updated as well. We believe that the new signs will be more attractive than the current signs and carry our community through the coming years.
Less important to the zoning case, but very important to WCA – the signs will also create efficiency in our operations for the long term. Currently, we pay a staff member to update the signs approximately three times per week. Changing each sign one time takes one and ½ hours of time, from pulling the letters to driving to the signs, to replacing the letters and then driving back to the office and putting the letters away. Modernizing the signs will eliminate much of that time!
